Sydney coach search goes global

Sydney FC chief executive Dirk Melton has revealed the club will look overseas for its new coach.

The club announced last week that Vitezslav Lavicka would depart at the conclusion of the 2011-12 season.

Lavicka, who is Sydney’s longest serving coach, led the Sky Blues to the league double in 2009/10 but a lacklustre run of form this season has Sydney in danger of not making the finals for a second consecutive year.

Sydney club officials announced they want to see the club take a new direction next season and in doing so would search for a new coach.

According to The World Game, Sydney are considering candidates from abroad including Manchester United legend Roy Keane and former West Ham boss Gianfranco Zola.

Sydney are also believed to be cons…

Everton in for Mata

Everton have been linked with a move for Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata, .

The Spain international was sold to the Red Devils from Chelsea by Jose Mourinho the man who replaced Loius van Gaal as United manager in January 2014.

Since arriving at Old Trafford, he has racked up one hundred and four appearances for the club in all competitions, scoring twenty-six goals though he appears to be surplus to Mourinho’s requirements once again.

He was part of the squad that won the FA Cup back in May, while he won the same competition with Chelsea in 2012 as well as tasting success in both the Champions League and Europa League.

He has been caped forty times for his country scoring ten goals, though he was left out of their squad for this summer’s…

Udinese eyeing Alberto Paloschi

Udinese are weighing up summer move for Chievo striker Alberto Paloschi, La Gazzetta dello Sport can reveal.

The 22-year-old will now remain in the midlands, having completed a transfer for a reported fee of £18million.

However, it is a deal which experienced midfielder Noble does not agree with.

As captain of this football club I m gutted, angry and sad that Grady has left, great kid with a great future!!!!! Noble tweeted in response …

Protest is needed – Tranmere vice-chair dismayed by scrapping of FA Cup replays

A lower-league club boss has called for protests over the decision to scrap all FA Cup replays and warned the Premier League will “strangle” the pyramid without a strong independent regulator.

Replays have been abolished from the first round onwards from next season as part of a minimum six-year agreement between the Football Association and the Premier League.

The matches have long been a part of FA Cup tradition – with the first replayed final taking place in 1875 – and have in some cases been highly lucrative for lower-league clubs.

The FA and the have reached an agreement to suit themselves further at the expense of the rest of the football pyramid.

Fixed it for you.

Bring on the regulator and make sure it has some teeth before the s…

Lazio president Lotito insists Milinkovic-Savic ´not for sale´ amid Juventus links

Milinkovic-Savic has impressed in Serie A once again this year, with no Italian top-flight player managing more than his 12 assists in 2022 before the World Cup break.

Only six midfielders have registered more goal contributions in Europe s top five leagues this season than Milinkovic Savic (12), though fellow midfielder Luis Alberto has failed to impress for Lazio.

Former Liverpool and Sevilla man Luis Alberto has fallen down the pecking order under Maurizio Sarri, though Lotito says he will not let the 30-year-old leave on loan in the next transfer window.

If he wants to leave, bring a team with money, because I really don t think about giving him on loan in January, he added. And I haven t received any requests from Atletico [Madrid].

At the moment,…

Simeone: I will not leave Atletico

Diego Simeone has committed his future to Atletico Madrid in the wake of more rumours about his departure from the Vicente Calderon.

Under the guidance of Simeone, Atletico have challenged the duopoly of Real Madrid and Barcelona in LaLiga, winning the title in 2013-14, as well as reaching two Champions League finals, where they lost each time to their arch-rivals from the Bernabeu.

Having secured top-three finishes in each of the past four seasons, Atletico are languishing in sixth this time around, already nine points off the pace of Zinedine Zidane s table-toppers.

Simeone is contracted with Atletico until the end of next season, but he has been strongly linked with a return to former club Inter  rumours his son, Genoa striker Giovanni, has fuelled by sayi…

Bayer Leverkusen have confirmed goalkeeper Bernd Leno has signed an extended contract with the Bundesliga club.

The 24-year-old Germany goalkeeper, who has made over 150 top-flight appearances for Leverkusen starting in all three games so far this season has pledged his future to the club until 2020.

And, having also extended the contracts of Karim Bellarabi and Wendell, Leverkusen head coach Roger Schmidt is delighted to have secured the future of another key player.

He is a complete goalkeeper, even if he still has the potential to grow. If you can prevent such a player…
