Blanc claims Champions League won´t decide PSG fate

Paris Saint-Germain coach Laurent Blanc is confident he will soon have news about his contract renewal and has claimed his future at the Ligue 1 leaders does not depend on the outcome of their Champions League campaign.

The 50-year-old has guided PSG to eight trophies since taking charge ahead of 2013-14, but the team is yet to make a major impact on the European stage during his tenure.

Reports at the beginning of the season suggested the club could part company with the coach when his deal expires in June if Champions League glory evades them again, but Blanc has dismissed such claims.

My contract renewal? You will have to be patient for now, but there will be news soon, he told a news conference.

We are making progress. My future at PSG does not depe…

Experience gives Manchester City advantage in title race – Pellegrini

Manuel Pellegrini believes experience could be the key to Manchester City winning the Premier League title this season.

The 2013-14 champions responded to a 3-0 defeat to Liverpool with a comfortable 4-0 victory over Aston Villa on Saturday, moving them to within two points of third-placed Arsenal, who earlier drew with Tottenham.

Pellegrini admits the title race is out of City s hands given the sizable gap to leaders Leicester City, but he is confident that his side have the mental edge to sustain a challenge until the final day.

All the teams will lose points from now until the end of the season, he said. The pressure comes more towards the end so experience will be important.

We need other teams to lose points we are not just depending on what we can…

Khiara Keating reflects on rapid rush to reach maturity in Manchester City goal

Manchester City goalkeeper Khiara Keating believes she has been forced to grow up quickly since taking over as the team’s number one.

The 19-year-old, who replaced Ellie Roebuck as manager Gareth Taylor’s preferred choice in goal at the start of the season, has excelled as the team have emerged as challengers for the Women’s Super League title.

The 2-1 victory against Everton on Saturday saw her concede for the first time since January 21, bringing to an end a run of five consecutive clean sheets in all competitions, with City now level on points with reigning champions Chelsea.

Ayre: Liverpool were in a perilous position

Liverpool managing director Ian Ayre has revealed the resurgent Premier League club were “seconds from disaster” before their 2010 takeover.

The Merseyside outfit are five points clear at the top of the Premier League with three games remaining and can take another giant stride towards a first league title for 24 years with a positive result against fellow title-contenders Chelsea at Anfield on Sunday.

Things were very different at the club four years ago, though, when they were in a perilous financial position under the much-maligned ownership of Tom Hicks and George Gillett.

With Fenway Sports Group now at the helm, the feel-good factor has returned at the club and Ayre has lifted the lid on just how precarious the situation was at Anfield before the John-Henry l…
